My three-year-old nephew Ace Alexander, who was diagnosed with autism, passed away tragically in July. This personal loss has prompted me to ask for change, so no other family should go through what we have. Children with autism have a higher chance of accidents around water. According to the National Autism Association, drowning remains a leading cause of death in children with autism, and they are 160 times more likely to die from drowning than other children. Hence, we implore our government to make it mandatory for children with autism and their parents to enroll in free swimming classes, subsidized by local, state, or federal budgets. It’s not just about swimming; it’s about understanding safety around waters, equipping these vulnerable children and their families with vital survival skills, and most importantly, preventing heartbreaking tragedies. In remembrance of Ace and others who have tragically lost their lives too soon, let’s take action. Sign this petition and support the mandatory swimming classes for children with autism and their parents. Your signature can help save lives.
